Coloring is an improvisatory audiovisual performance that I created in MUSIC 18AX: Audiovisual Performance, an Arts Intensive course taught by Professor Constantin Basica at Stanford University. For this piece, I built a Max patcher in which a performer uses sound to apply dots of color to a digital canvas. The pitch of a sound determines the size of the resulting dot, its pitch class determines its hue, and its volume determines the saturation of its color.
Coloring showcases the act of painting with sound: it transforms music into a visual art, prompting the visual to shape the musical performance in turn.
